Fresh yuzu almost never turns up in a UK supermarket, so bottled juice or paste, found with the Japanese sauces, is what you are actually looking for.

Which aisle is yuzu in?

Bottled yuzu juice and yuzu kosho paste sit in the world food aisle, in the Japanese section, usually near soy sauce, mirin and ponzu. Large supermarkets rarely stock it, so a Japanese or Asian grocer is the more reliable option.

Where to look

  1. Japanese grocers. The most reliable source for both juice and paste.
  2. World food aisle. A small number of large supermarkets carry bottled juice here.
  3. Online specialist shops. The widest range, including fresh yuzu in a short winter season.

Buying it online

Since fresh yuzu is hard to find locally, online specialist shops are often the easiest route to both the juice and the paste, and it keeps well once delivered.

Frequently asked questions

Do any UK supermarkets stock yuzu?

A few larger stores carry bottled yuzu juice in the world food aisle, but stock is patchy, a Japanese grocer is more reliable.

Is bottled yuzu juice as good as fresh?

It is close and works fine for cooking, though fresh yuzu has a stronger aroma that bottled juice cannot fully match.
